Curriculum Proposal System
The online Curriculum Proposal System (CPS) is where all academic-related proposals are submitted (undergraduate, graduate, and first professional).
ALL CURRICULUM PROPOSALS ARE PUBLIC DOCUMENTS - please make sure submissions are as complete as possible prior to submission to the system. Notes, comments, and routing (such as being sent back) are all documented and viewable.
The APA Curriculum Coordinators are available for pre-proposal consultations. These consultations will likely help the proposal move through the system faster and more efficiently. Please refer to our Course Proposal FAQ - this will help you.
This system tracks the proposals transparently and efficiently by noting all changes and comments made to the proposal. It also routes the proposal to the APA Curriculum Coordinators for completeness, to faculty liaisons who have interest in the proposal, and to Faculty Senate oversight committees/councils.
The Office of Academic Programs and Assessment works closely with the Faculty Senate and the Registrar's Office to implement the curriclum proposal process. The Curriculum Proposal System (CPS) is the formal mechanism to record any curricular changes and to make those changes publically (and legally) visable via the OSU catalog.
A WEBSITE OR EMAIL ANNOUNCEMENT OF A CHANGE IS NOT A FORMAL DOCUMENTED CHANGE UNTIL IT IS HAS GONE THROUGH THE ENTIRE CPS PROCESS AND BEEN APPROVED. ANY PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR PENDING PROPOSALS MUST STATE “pending approvals – students may not be admitted to a program that is not represented in the current OSU Catalog.”
Types of Proposals
With a few exceptions (described below), most curricular changes need to be submitted through the CPS. This is to generate a record of the change, ensure the change is appropriately recorded in the catalog, and, when necessary, enables other faculty stakeholders (liaisons) and the Faculty Senate oversight committees to ensure curricular standards are being met.
Curriculum and Programmatic Proposals that Require Submissions to the CPS
New programs (submitted to state-level review)
New degree programs
New certificate programs
Extension to an OSU Branch Campus
Other proposals (internal to OSU)
Termination/suspension of a degree or certificate program
Establish, merge, split or terminate a college, school, or department
Move responsibility for an academic program from one unit to another
Blanket and special topics courses - Blanket (e.g. 401-410) or Special Topics (e.g. X99) are created via a request to the APA Office. Honors College course requests are submitted directly to the Registrar's Office for approval.
