CIM Tips

Tips for successfully creating a proposal

  • Answer the questions in order.
    • The CIM forms are dynamic so depending on how you answer certain questions, additional questions may appear.  For best results, answer the questions in order so the early questions can trigger related questions--it will save you time and effort.
  • Save work as you go.
    • CIM doesn't automatically save your work so periodically click the "save changes" button at the bottom of the form.
    • If you close the CIM tab without saving your changes, you'll receive a pop-up message confirming you want to leave. Select "stay on page," then "save changes." Now you can close the tab.
    • If you close the browser window you will not receive a reminder to save your changes.
  • Read the help text.
    • Most questions have a little blue circle with a question mark.  Hover over the circle to preview the text (including hyperlinks) or click the circle to open the text in a pop-up message.
    • Even seasoned CPS users have something to learn in CIM. Some of the policies and procedures have changed along with the proposal system so check help text and click on links to make sure you have the most up-to-date information.
  • Ask for help.
    • Contact [email protected] with questions about using CIM. APA and Office of the Registrar staff will respond as soon as possible.
  • Respond to reviewer comments quickly.
    • One of the easiest ways to move your proposal along is to respond to review comments within a few days of receiving them. Proposal originators receive a notification from CIM after every step.
    • CIM will not send you a reminder when you haven't responded in a timely manner after the proposal was sent back to you.
