This program provides partial fulfillment of the education and experience requirements for dietitian/nutritionist licensure. Upon graduation from the undergraduate major in Nutrition with Dietetics option, students are eligible to enter a dietetic internship. The internship must be completed before students can take the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration*. Those who successfully complete this national exam earn the nationally recognized RDN credential. Successful completion of this exam is a prerequisite for obtaining Dietitian licensure in Oregon.

Each state/territory maintains its own licensing or registration requirements. If your intent is to secure licensure outside of Oregon, then BEFORE beginning OSU’s program, review the table below to determine whether OSU has obtained confirmation from the state or territory to formally identify whether this program meets the educational requirements for licensure. If it is currently unknown whether this program meets the education requirements for licensure, the status is "not yet determined."

If this program is identified as “not yet determined" or "does not meet” it may nevertheless meet all or a portion of the educational requirements for licensure. In these instances, we recommend contacting the licensing agency for confirmation, before you begin the OSU program.

Additionally, since state and territory regulations can change, should you pursue this OSU program, we recommend that you regularly check licensure requirements during your studies to ensure ongoing eligibility. To help facilitate this, direct links to the licensing agencies have been provided when possible.

*Effective January 1, 2024, the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) will require a minimum of a master’s degree to be eligible to take the credentialing exam to become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). In order to be approved for registration examination eligibility with a bachelor’s degree, an individual must meet all eligibility requirements and be submitted into CDR's Registration Eligibility Processing System (REPS) before 12:00 midnight Central Time, December 31, 2023. For more information about this requirement visit CDR's website: https://www.cdrnet.org/graduatedegree. In addition, CDR requires that individuals complete coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). Graduates who successfully complete the ACEND-accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics program at Oregon State University are eligible to apply to an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program.
